Seeking Contributions to New Book Project Posted Thursday, February 12 I’m currently working on a book with the working title, “The Silver Lining of Divorce.” My hope is that, beyond my own contributions, I can gather the personal short stories of others who have traveled the road of divorce and found that as difficult as that time was, there was a silver lining (no matter how small) that helped you through it all.
I will be compiling these stories in hopes of creating a resource and source of inspiration for those just beginning the process. The aftermath of divorce can last long into the future. But, it’s in those first few days and months that I wished someone could’ve given me some concrete examples of hope that life would get better. Through the stories (and even short simple examples) of those who’ve been there, I hope to let others know the pain won’t always be so fresh and life not always as complicated as it feels now.
If you're interested in sharing a story or two, please contact me.Your identity will not be revealed in the final copy without your approval, of course.
I’m looking for stories and examples, big and small…essentially any little good thing that happened to you during the divorce process that would help someone to hear. Maybe yours involved family, friends, the kids, new choices for your life, adjusting to being single, whatever. (Perhaps your kids, family or friends will have a stories to share, too.) To give you an idea, here are excerpts of a couple stories I’m planning to share…
Excerpt 1: I learned to revel in a clean house while the kids were away for the weekend (and became more forgiving when it was messier the rest of the time). No one to pick up after for a day or two became a small, but much needed, perk that helped me get through the first weekends I ever spent without my kids.
Excerpt 2: Struggling through those first weekends without the 24 hour responsibility of parenting was nearly unbearable. Perhaps if I had known that in the future, those solo weekends would be filled with the most romantic relationship of my life, the early weeks would’ve been easier to handle. Sure was an unexpected twist to have my married friends be jealous of my new life that included quiet dinners for two...
This book is meant to speak to those just starting their journey with a message of healing and hope from those who’ve found happiness in life again. Many others I’ve talked with who have been through a divorce have commented that the support from those who’d “already been through it” was so helpful. I hope you’ll share your “silver lining” stories with me and, in turn, with the many people who need to hear them.
Care to 'fess up to help a newbie? Posted Thursday, July 31 As a copywriting mentor, I've listened to the worries of newbies who fear making mistakes so horrible that their careers will never recover from them. To help ease those fears, I'm asking my copywriting colleagues to help me with a little project called, "Copywriter Confessions."
What I’m putting together is a collection of real-life blunders from professional copywriters to share with my mentoring clients (and other interested newbies in an ebook, perhaps). I'm allowing confessors to be anonymous to protect their identity and client privacy, but I'm hoping that by seeing how others made it over the hurdles of getting started, newbies will find the courage to forge ahead.
The path to the green pastures includes lots of fences and newbies need to know that their perseverance will eventually pay off. As the Richard Bach quote framed on my desk reminds me daily, “A professional writer is an amateur who didn’t quit.”
If you have a confession to share, please send it to me before September 1st at mary@twacopywriting.com with the subject line, "Copywriter Confessions." Thanks! Mary

The eBook is Here! Posted Friday, June 27 Thanks for stopping by The Write Answer to hear the big news...my new eBook is finally ready! It's called, How to Make Money as a Freelance Fundraising Copywriter and it's the book I wish I'd had when I started out!
As a fledgling fundraising copywriter, I was truly "winging it" when I began searching for clients, trying to figure out who to ask for once I found a company and even, how to price my work. In my new eBook, edited by Bob Bly, you'll find all the tips and techniques I wish I'd known long ago to break into fundraising copywriting.
And, it's not just my experiences you'll benefit from - I tapped over 100 years of fundraising knowledge by talking with many experts in the industry. Chapter 10 is an entire interview with an actual client who answers all the questions freelancers want to ask. That information alone would've saved me endless hours of agonizing over what my clients were really thinking about and wanting from me as a freelancer.
I hope you'll check out the book at www.ctcpublishing.net/cmd.php?Clk=2467470. If you're interested in learning more about getting into the fundraising niche, you can also check out my mentoring plans by clicking on the Services page.
